Times of daylight at different locations in Alaska
So far north, one should include the daylight variation in the travel preparations. The diagrams on this page show times of daylight, twilight, and night, for several locations in Alaska. The time scale is given as local time, while the time used is normally the zone time. The correction is given for each location for the daylight saving time period. Mountains that might in between you and the midnight sun are, of course, not taken into account.
Legend:
- white - sunlight
- light grey - "civil twilight". Sun between 0 and 6 degrees below the horizon. The light usually is sufficient to read.
- medium grey - "nautical twilight". Sun between 6 and 12 degrees below the horizon. Rather dark already.
- dark grey - "astronomical twilight". Sun between 12 and 18 degrees below the horizon. For non-astronomers, there is hardly any difference to "real" night.
- black - night.
Calculations were performed using Skyplot IIId on Atari.
